Rainy day in Old Forge?

This past summer we had quite a bit of rain when we were on our annual vacation (which is actually pretty rare for us).  When it does rain, there is plenty to do.  We tend to go shopping in town or hang out with the kids at the ADK Pizzeria and arcade.  You can even catch a movie at their quaint little theater, The Strand, on Main Street. (The theater is worth a visit just to check out their collection of vintage movie memorabilia and film cameras).

This year however, we decided to spend one of our days at The Wild Center in the town of Tupper Lake. "This new Center, dedicated to understanding this rare place, is committed to helping people explore not a small collection, but one that lives and breathes across the entire expanse of the Adirondacks." We all had a BLAST!  I cannot wait to head back this summer.  I highly recommend.

Here are some photos....

The otters were a HUGE hit!!  Make sure you watch their daily feeding and tricks.

What is your tip for a rainy day in the Old Forge area?

A brief overview:

Old Forge is located in the Central Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York.  Old Forge is the largest community in the historic Town of Webb.  The main street is Route 28 which runs through the town and continues along the Fulton Chain of Lakes.  As you can see on the map below, The Fulton Chain begins at the town of Old Forge with Old Forge Pond.  From the pond you can access First Lake by the narrow channel.

What makes this chain of lakes so unique (in my opinion) is that you can access Old Forge Pond thru Fifth Lake all by boat. Each lake is connected by a small channel. "The Fulton Chain of Lakes is part of a river system originally dammed at Old Forge in about 1798. Water flowing through the Fulton Chain starting at 8th Lake enters the Middle branch of the Moose River at the Old Forge Dam. The North branch of the Moose River joins the Middle Branch below the dam." ~Fulton Chain of Lakes Association.

There are many houses, camps, cabins, and condos a family can rent when visiting Old Forge. The choices are endless.
